✘ Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in Australia. ✘ Approximately 3,500 men die from it each year. ✘ More men die of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer.
The good news is the chance of survival if detected early is very high. An annual PSA blood test can help detect prostate cancer.
Support groups offer non-judgemental, confidential environments in which to share knowledge and experiences. They are located in metropolitan and regional areas and include specialist support groups for partners, men with advanced prostate cancer and those with special needs.
Men and their families affected by prostate cancer can feel reassured by sharing in the experiences of those who have “walked the walk”. To be able to talk about their situation in a relaxed empathetic environment is very helpful. Members are usually surprised how much their attitude improves and confidence increases.
